What cookies are
Cookies are small text files a website stores in your browser. Some are needed for the site to work, others are used for advertising. We also use "local storage", which works the same way but is never sent to a server.
Cookies we set
| Name | Purpose | Lasts | Type |
|---|---|---|---|
PHPSESSID | Keeps you signed in while you browse and links the split you are editing to your session. | Until the browser closes, or 30 days when signed in | Strictly necessary |
ezy_remember | Signs you back in on your next visit without a new code. | 30 days | Strictly necessary (set only after you sign in) |
ezy_csrf | A random security token that proves a change to a split came from this site, not from another website. | 1 year | Strictly necessary |
ezy_cookie_notice_v2 (local storage) | Remembers that you dismissed the cookie notice. | Until cleared | Preference |
Strictly necessary cookies do not require consent.
Analytics
We count page views with our own counter, which sets no cookies. It keeps only daily totals per page and referring website, and a daily visitor count derived from a one-way hash that changes every day.
We also use Google Analytics 4 to understand how the site is used. It sets the cookies _ga and _ga_<id> on ezysplit.com, which last up to 2 years. Split links are sent to Google without their private group id. In the EEA, UK and Switzerland these cookies are set only after you consent. You can opt out with the Google Analytics opt-out add-on.
Advertising cookies (Google AdSense)
When ads are shown, Google and its certified partners set cookies such as IDE, __gads, __gpi and NID on the google.com, doubleclick.net and googlesyndication.com domains. They are used to show relevant ads, limit how often you see the same ad, and measure ad performance. Typical lifetimes are 13 months or less.
Where the law requires it (for example in the EEA, UK and Switzerland), a consent message from Google appears before personalised ads load. You can change your choice later through the "Privacy & ad settings" link in the footer when it is available, or via Google Ads Settings.
Third-party content
Fonts and scripts load from Google Fonts, jsDelivr and cdnjs. These services may set their own cookies; see their privacy policies for details.
How to control cookies
- Every browser lets you block or delete cookies in its settings. Blocking the strictly necessary cookies will stop sign-in from working, but you can still create and share splits.
- Opt out of personalised ads at google.com/settings/ads or optout.aboutads.info.
