Ezysplit

Frequently asked questions

If yours isn't here, ask us on the contact page.

Do I need an account?

No. You can create, share and edit a split without signing in. Signing in (email code, no password) adds a dashboard of your splits and a personal "Your balance" card.

Is it free?

Yes, completely. Ezysplit is supported by a small amount of advertising.

How does the maths work?

Each bill is divided equally among the people who are not excluded from it. Everyone's net position is paid minus their share. People with a negative position pay people with a positive one, matched so the number of payments is as small as possible.

Can I split unequally, for example 60/40?

Not yet. You can exclude people from a bill, which covers most real cases (the vegetarians didn't share the chicken). Custom shares are on the roadmap.

Someone paid part of a bill. How do I enter that?

Enter it as two bills with the same description: one for each payer and their amount. The shares still come out right.

Can other people add bills?

Yes. Anyone with the split link can add, edit or delete bills. Share the link only with the people in the split.

I lost the link to my split.

If you were signed in when you created it, it is on your dashboard. If not, ask anyone you shared it with to send the link back.

How do I pick which name is me?

Open the split while signed in and use the "Which one is you?" card to choose your name. You can change it later from the same card.

What currency does it use?

Amounts are shown in rupees (₹). The maths is currency-agnostic, so you can use it for any currency as long as all bills in one split use the same one.

Is my data private?

Names, amounts, emails and split titles are stored encrypted. Splits are only visible to people who have the link. We do not sell data. See the Privacy Policy for details.

How do I delete a split or my account?

Delete individual bills with the bin icon. To delete a whole split or your account, email us from the contact page and we will do it within a few days.

Does Ezysplit move money?

No. It tells you who should pay whom; you settle by cash, UPI or bank transfer yourself.
