1. Name the event and add the people
On the home page, type something like "Goa trip" or "Friday dinner" and the names of everyone involved, separated by commas. First names are fine. Click Next and your split is created with its own private link.
2. Enter each bill
For every expense, fill in four things:
- Paid for: what it was, for example "Cab to airport".
- Amount: the total, in rupees.
- Paid by: the person whose money it was.
- Exclude persons (optional): anyone who shouldn't share this particular bill. The two people who skipped the boat ride don't pay for it.
Each bill is split equally among everyone who isn't excluded. You can edit or delete any bill later with the pencil and bin icons.
3. Read "Who pays whom"
The panel on the right updates after every bill. It shows the smallest set of payments that settles the whole group, for example "Omi pays Asha ₹100". Behind the scenes it works out each person's net position (paid minus their share) and matches the people who are owed with the people who owe. The settlement guide walks through an example by hand.
4. Share the link
Click Share to copy the link or send it straight to WhatsApp. Everyone with the link sees the same split and can add their own bills, so you don't have to collect receipts from anyone.
Optional: sign in to see your part
Sign in with your email (we send a 6-digit code, no password) and pick which name in the split is you. You'll get a Your balance card showing exactly what you owe or are owed, and a dashboard with every split you're part of and your total position.
Tips
- Add bills as they happen. It takes ten seconds and saves an hour at the end of the trip.
- Use the exclude option rather than making a separate split for sub-groups.
- Settle in the order shown. Each payment on the list clears one person completely.
